BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The Enterprise Business Analyst role will analyze market and industry trends to inform competitive response through analytics and insights.  They will provide proactive, objective and in-depth insights about current and future market and competitive trends as well as providing a view of MSC’s performance and growth opportunities within these markets through in-depth and timely analysis and dashboard creation.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide industry-specific and general market analyses to deliver insights regarding company, market and competitive trends, and other data-driven analyses
  • Work with MSC’s Segment Managers and Sales leaders on the trends and insights that are impacting the business including competitors, customers and the industry as a whole.
  • Work with MSC’s digital analytics team to understand and analyze MSC’s online business through the creation of enterprise level dashboards.
  • Support the creation of quarterly competitive deep dives of key public and private competitors by gathering data from multiple sources and focusing on key strategic points of view while providing immediate insights on major competitive business activities as they occur.  Sources of information can be competitors’ websites for information on products, pricing and company capability, independent industry research or published research reports to determine market share, sales and strategies, and social networks to understand customers’ attitudes towards each competitor
  • Provide analysis and insights on MSC’s addressable market in all relevant end markets, geographies and categories that will identify measurable growth opportunities for the Enterprise.
  • Supports the development and achievement of the company’s strategic plan through competitive, category and industry analysis and forecasting through the legal and ethical collection and analysis of information about the capabilities, vulnerabilities, and intentions of business competitors and the industrial landscape as a whole.
  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • BS/BA degree in Marketing, Statistics, Business Management, Finance or related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in competitive analysis, sales analysis/planning and syndicated data analysis required
  • B2B/Industrial Goods experience preferred.

 

SKILLS:

  • Ability to independently analyze large amounts of data from multiple sources and as a result extract tangible and meaningful insights
  • Provide solutions and strategic recommendations through data analysis
  • Outstanding leadership skills; ability to use influence to build consensus across both leaders and peers
  • Must be a self-motivated individual who has the ability to identify issues/opportunities for improvement and be proactive in addressing them
  • Experience with the Salesforce.com platform preferred
  • Proficiency in enterprise data query and visualization tools including, but not limited to; Tableau, Alteryx, SAP Lumira, SAP Web-Intelligence
  • Commercial experience/exposure to sales organization and selling tools to support sales efforts
  • Ability to adapt and embrace new tools and technologies
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across all functions
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast paced environment, and meet stringent deadlines
  • Positive attitude, persistence and integrity

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 10% of the time may be required.
