BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications Specialist supports MSC’s internal and external communications. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for planning and developing various communications that support company’s purpose, strategy, brand and business.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages editorial calendar and develops and posts content for company intranet.
  • Plans, researches and creates high-impact communications, including presentations, talking points, videos, emails, organization announcements, articles, Web content, press releases, fact sheets and other communications.
  • Edits communications and organizational announcements from other functional teams, including Human Resources and Community Relations.
  • Evaluates internal communication channels and make recommendations for enhancements.
  • Helps manage and works with outside vendors including agencies and freelance editors and writers.
  • Develops and implements recommendations to improve internal communications and associate engagement.
  • Provides internal communication templates and tools to support the organization and drive efficiencies and consistency.
  • Develops and executes communications plans for key company initiatives or programs.
  • Manages planning, content and logistics for town hall meetings.
  • Special projects as needed.
  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of vision and fulfillment of MSC’s mission.

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in journalism, communications or similar required.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in internal/external communications with a large company or agency required.
  • Familiar with latest trends and best practices in corporate communications required.

     

SKILLS:

  • Experience developing and executing communications required.
  • Outstanding storytelling, writing and editing skills required.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style required.
  • Strong program and project management skills, self-directed and detail-oriented required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities, keeping projects on schedule and on budget required.
  • Ability to adapt to situations and work in a fast-paced, often-changing environment required.
  • Creative thinker with a solutions-oriented mindset required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 10% of the time may be required.
