BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The Product Information Analyst I is responsible for all data requirements related to MSC’s product offerings from induction of new items to on-going maintenance of data and images.  Position manages suppliers from a data perspective, operates cross-functionally with internal customers, involved in process improvement, metric measurement and fosters the MSC culture.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes data to identify anomalies, gaps or lack adherence to data standards
  • Assists in critical processes and/or uploads
  • Imports, exports and/or queries large databases including DB2 & SQL.
  • Analyzes, writes, maintains, and presents data utilizing Excel and Access to support decision making process.
  • Create, maintain, document, improve processes and act as a key contributor to company-wide Product Information Data Quality effort to expand and normalize data to support all marketing and sales vehicles including but not limited to eCommerce and print catalogs.
  • Assists training of new associates in other functional areas that interact with the Product Information data.
  • Establishes and follows a process for identifying and executing data normalization opportunities.
  • Executes and coordinates data distribution, collection and validation to support larger project/process plans and data loads
  • Monitors database performance against defined goals. Investigates potential issues and recommends resolutions
  • Analyzes, refines and streamlines existing processes. Reports recommendations to management.
  • Develops and supports project and departmental metrics, reports, processes and analytics used to measure and monitor performance standards.
  • Works cross-functionally with IS, Product Management, Sales, Suppliers, etc. to ensure data is consistent and accurate across databases and data entry efforts.
  • Ensures data synchronization between Product, Publishing, E-commerce, and related databases during project execution.
  • Controls database integrity to prevent structural bloat by instituting permissions processes around additions or changes to the database.
  • Provides support to other functional areas when required
  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or the equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of two years related experience is required

 

 

SKILLS:

  • Ability to write and execute queries required.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize query results required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct upload errors required
  • Expert level working knowledge of complete Microsoft office suite of products including Access, Excel, Word, etc. required
  • Fundamental mathematical and analytical skills required.
  • Experience in executing multiple, simultaneous projects is required. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.
  • Excellent time management skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) Systems or SAP Systems a plus.
  • Fluency in Relational Database Management Systems like SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, etc. preferred.
  • In depth understanding of relational databases, including the ability to write and manipulate raw query statements, preferred.
