DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Leads a team of direct reports in accordance with all duties inherent in the role of an MSC Manager including but not limited to; training, coaching, goal setting, performance appraisals and team building and other opportunities to encourage associate engagement.
  • Develops and maintains MSC EC&S programs to meet RCRA goals of: 1) Protecting human health and the environment from the potential hazards of waste disposal; 2) Conserving valuable energy and natural resources; 3) Reducing the amount of waste that’s generated whenever and wherever feasible and 4) Ensuring that all wastes that are generated are managed in an environmentally sound manner.
  • Ensures all locations are compliant with Hazardous Material Storage and Hazardous/Universal Waste requirements in accordance with Country (e.g. USA, Canada, UK) Federal, State, Province and local regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring all required paperwork for recordkeeping and reporting to support “cradle to grave” documentation requirements are on file and available to support Environmental Compliance. This includes but is not limited to: EPA ID numbers; Generator Status; Site specific hazardous waste generation logs and internal inspection reports; Regulatory Agency Inspection reports; RCRA Hazardous Waste Manifests; Waste Characterizations and Profiles; TCLP reports; Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR’s); Exception Reports; Personnel training records; Incident reports; etc.
  • Develops an Environmental Compliance Schedule to assist Site Management with the evaluation, implementation, and training needed to comply with Environmental Compliance programs such as but not limited to: Air Permits, SPDES Permits, Underground and Above Ground Storage Tanks; Emergency Planning and Community Response Act (EPCRA); Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC); Recycling Programs (Canada PCA, Stewardship Ontario), Universal Waste (e.g. Batteries, Lamps, Pesticides, Mercury (i.e. Thermostats);e-Waste, Management of Used Oil; Chemical Donations; Expired and/or damaged waste chemical sales/
  • For areas of responsibility establishes applicable EC&S program metrics review for MSC locations and makes assignments to EC&S department members to follow up with site management to ensure compliance.
  • Develops and supports MSC sustainability program goals and objectives at MSC facilities and in the Supply Chain pertaining but not limited to: Energy Usage; Water Usage; Waste Minimization; Environmentally Preferred Product (EPP)/Green product offerings; Carbon footprint; Greenhouse gas reduction.
  • Knowledgeable in applicable aspects of Federal, State and local environmental regulations as they pertain to products purchased, sold and distributed within the United States and International locations. Typical regulations include: Volatile Organic Compounds, Ozone Depleting Substances, Proposition 65, Right to Know, Lead and Mercury restrictions, Restrictions of Hazardous Substances {RoHS – European Union [EU], China, South Korea}; and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals {EU REACH}
  • Knowledgeable in applicable aspects of Federal (DOT) and International (IMDG, IATA, ADR, TDG) regulations as they pertain to the shipments of hazardous materials.
  • Assists in the development of EC&S policies, procedures and program implementations to achieve/maintain compliance and reduce environmental risks associated with product sales and daily operations.
  • Supports cross-functional compliance with various environmental regulatory requirements and provides input to Sales, legal and product on Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Contracts, Agreements; Customer requests for Contractor on-site support.
  • Supports reviews and classifications of all product offerings and the use of third party resources (e.g. Verisk-3E, Assent, etc.) to obtain pertinent information needed to collect, store, interpret technical information needed to compliantly sell MSC products.
  • Prepares clear and concise reports for department management on program activities and develops EC&S communications for distribution within the organization.
  • Must be able to lead cross functional teams to support EC&S projects and/or compliance objectives.
  • Manages take back/recycling regulations (e.g. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment {WEEE}, Canadian Provincial) and Product packaging requirements for recycled materials and recycled content.
  • Travels to various locations to assist with achieving EC&S compliance (i.e. EPA, DOT, etc) by promoting EC&S initiatives, and performing audits.
  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of MSC’s mission
  • Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
     

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

 

  • College Degree or equivalent experience is required (Environmental, Safety & Health preferred)
  • Five years Environmental Compliance Experience is required.
  • Three years’ experience in managing associates is required.
  • Familiar with the EC&S implications of typical distribution process is preferred.

 

SKILLS:

 

  • Strong, effective verbal and written skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software is required.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, financial, problem solving, leadership and communication skills are required.
  • Knowledgeable of rules, regulations and guidelines of various federal or state agencies governing EC&S fields is required.
  • Previous experience with AS400 and SAP is preferred

 

MISCELLANEOUS:

 

  • 15-20% travel within the United States.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
