JOB TITLE: Sr. Manager UX/UI Digital Design

 

BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Manager, User Experience/User Interface will set and lead the vision and process for digital product design and user experience. This role requires an innovative design thinker who is self-sufficient, thrives in ambiguity, has experience in quickly grasping requirements, manage a team of designers and can drive results across business product and technical teams. Team building, Cross Functional Collaboration, Accountability, Ownership and Defining Success Criteria are some of the key qualities required for this position.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Hires, Manages and develops a team of designers, setting clear goals, managing workloads and allocating designers, accordingly, ensuring deadlines are met and setting up team members for overall success.
* Leads and provides guidance to the team to develop best practices for creating better products and processes.
* Oversees discovery and design of all digital products
* Creates frameworks for user research to understand and be the voice of our internal and external customer.
* Collaborates cross-functionally with product management, engineering, and marketing to spearhead new product development and ensure a smooth product development process.
* Educates the company on the value of design thinking and advocate for a user-centered approach.
* Champions a unified design system across all digital products
* Rolls up sleeves and contribute as a designer when necessary.
* Executes in a fast-paced and highly fluid environment.
* Establishes and maintain a strong stakeholder network with high level of trust that facilitates action.
* Presents and justifies design rationale and key milestone deliverables to peers and stakeholders.
* Regular communication with senior leadership across business, digital strategy, and technology, therefore, executive presentation skills are essential for this opportunity.
* Establishes a fact-based culture in the organization by defining data driven decision processes.
* Ensures that user-facing products are both highly effective and world-class in design.
* Key contributor to the digital strategy, providing the factual basis for future customer experiences and its development.
* Builds and maintains customer archetypes and user personas to ensure the stakeholders understand the needs of our customers.
* Collaborates with development teams to define scope, budget, and transform the existing waterfall processes in Agile Framework.
* Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
* Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HCI, UX, or related field is required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of design experience with a focus on eCommerce or related field.
  • Minimum four (4) years industry experience in a management role on a Design team.
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates a user-centric, thoughtful approach to problem-solving through design
  • Experience leading a product focused high-performance design team.
  • Experience working with engineers, product managers, and user researchers to drive strategy, vision, and execution.
  • Experience managing process and teams in an agile/scrum environment.
  • Experience working in the B2B/Technology/Logistics space.
  • Experience working with design systems and tools such as Sketch, Invision and Adobe.
  • A user-centered design approach and highly collaborative, low-ego approach to design.
  • Experience attracting, hiring and retaining top design talent.
  • Comfortable managing a wide range of responsibilities at the same time.
  •  Experience in AB and multivariance testing.
  • Outstanding communication skills, comfortable presenting complex topics to stakeholders at various organizational levels both in person and remotely.
  • Outstanding presentation skills and storytelling.
  • Some knowledge of API’s, 3^rd Party Systems, Legacy Systems (SAP) and integration with modern day SaaS solutions.

 

SKILLS:

  • Proven track record of being able to manage multiple projects in parallel and to deliver on plan
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong soft skills and ability to maintain and develop internal and external relationships; collaborating across multiple business and technology functions, relationship-building and consensus building are essential
  • Strong leadership to inspire and motivate different audiences (levels and functions); demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing people beyond their functional roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to anticipate issues and challenges and quickly adapt to unanticipated changes required
  • Proven track record in attracting and developing talent
  • Prior successes in major change role as both architect and leading implementation.
  • Able to actively participate at a leadership level on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization can effectively and efficiently move through transitions.
